Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an element for forming a cathode electrode with high yield, by providing an opening group near a plurality of cathode electrodes in gate wiring of an electric-field electron emission element group provided in respective crossing regions between the plurality of cathode electrodes respectively formed stripe like and a plurality of gate wirings.
SOLUTION: A luminescent-type display device displays a pattern by arranging picture elements comprising an electric-field electron emission element group and a fluorescent layer 18 in a matrix form, and exciting and make luminous the fluorescent layer 18 with electrons from the electric-field electron emission elements in each picture element selected so as to provide a desired display pattern. The luminescent-type display device comprises a plane substrate 1 having on its surface a plurality of stripe-like cathode wirings 2b, a plurality of stripe-like gate wiring 4c substantially orthogonal to them, and a plurality of electric-field electron emission element groups in their crossing regions, a facing substrate 10 faced to the plane substrate 1 and having an anode electrode 9 and the fluorescent layer 18 laminated on the substantially entire surface, and a vacuum layer 12 held between these substrates.
