To provide a high reliability in the brake control of a motor by controlling an inverter so as to consume the kinetic energy according to the rotation of the motor as the heat of the motor in the control of the brake operation of the motor for rotating a washing and spin-dry basket and agitating blades.
When a brushless motor 15 is braked after rotating a washing tub at high speed in spin-dry operation, quick consumption of kinetic energy is required for quick deceleration of a spin-dry basket, and the kinetic energy is thus consumed as the heat of the motor 51. Namely, the voltage Vi supplied from an inverter circuit 29b to the motor 51 and the phase angle δ are controlled, and the q-axial component Vq of the voltage Vi is laid in a reverse phase state at a voltage close to the induced voltage to consume the induced voltage of the motor 51 as heat. The generated heat of the motor 51 is diffused to the circumference of the motor such as a washing machine body, and the thermal energy is absorbed thereby to prevent the motor 51 from being laid in a high-temperature state causing an abnormality.
