Abstract:
PURPOSE:To shorten powder filling time and electrolyte pouring time and to obtain a battery having good discharge performance by forming secondary or tertiary particles having a specified particle size by the aggregation of silica fine particles having a specified primary particle size, and impregnating a sulfuric acid electrolyte in the particles, then filling them in a space between electrodes and in the surrounding of the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Secondary or tertiary particles having a particle size of 50-200mu are formed by the aggregation of hydrous silica fine powder having a primary particle size of 10-40mmu. A sulfuric acid electrolyte is impregnated in these fine particles to form sulfuric acidimpregnated powder 3. Since the powder 3 has fine primary particles and large specific surface area, it keeps a powdery state even if a large amount of electrolyte is added. The powder 3 is filled in a space between a positive plate 1 and a negative plate 2 and in the surrounding of the plates, then a specified amount of electrolyte is poured, and initial charge is conducted to form a battery. By previously impregnating the electrolyte in the silica fine particles serving as an electrolyte retainer, powder filling time and electrolyte pouring time are shortened and the battery having good discharge performance is obtained.
