Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an electrode having a superior electron radiation faculty as well as to improve the adhesiveness to an electrode constituting member by mixing 0.5W20mol% yttrium oxide into dysprosium oxide and adding the electron radiating substance containing 0.5W30mol% tungsten and molybdenum into said oxide mixture.

CONSTITUTION: Yttrium oxide and tungsten were mixed in a variety of ratio into dysprosium oxide to form electron radiating substance 18, and said mixture was applied onto an electrode constituting member, which was heated at 1,800°C in Ar-gas environment to form electrodes 2a, 2b..., and a variety of 400W metal vapor discharge lamps were prepared, and then lighting-up test was performed. It was shown that the light flux maintaining rate of the metal vapor discharge lamp using electron radiating substance shown in examples was markedly superior. This process is also applicable to such an unit that a rouhgly wound part is formed on an inside coil 16 wound around an electrode core metal 15, and an outside coil 17 is wound onto the outside of said part to form an electrode constituting material.
