If a display screen is touched when a line of input images are being displayed, the type of an object at the touch position is detected and a scene determination process is carried out with respect to the touch position. When the touch time (touch time of the display screen and finger) is relatively short, a target image is immediately taken in an imaging mode in accordance with a result of the scene determination process and if the touch time is relatively long, a display menu is produced and displayed using the result of the scene determination process based on the detection result of the type of the object. For example, if an object at the touch position is a person, a display menu including an item to be selected which is displayed as a "portrait" is produced and displayed. Thereafter, if a user selects the item to be selected which is displayed as the "portrait", a target image is taken in a portrait mode suitable for imaging of the person.
