PURPOSE: To obtain large thrust and compact a stator and a return wheel by winding a banded secondary conductor provided parallel to a main lanyard around a return wheel, connecting both ends of the secondary conductor respectively to a cage and a balance weight and driving the secondary conductor by the stator of a linear motor.

CONSTITUTION: A banded secondary conductor 12 is provided parallel to a main lanyard 5 and driven by the stator 13 of a linear motor. Large thrust can be thereby obtained. In addition, a control unit is constructed in such a way as to directly provide the secondary conductor 12 with braking force, thereby unnecessitating friction holding force among a return wheel 11, the main lanyard 5 and the secondary conductor 12.
