Abstract:

To hydrogenate an ester component or an acid compound in an enantioselective state by using a specific ferrocenyl catalyst.

A compound of formula I [(n) is an integer of 1-3; R is H, a 1-18C alkyl, a 6-18C aryl, a 7-19C aralkyl, a carboxy-protecting group or the like; R' is H, a 1-18C alkyl, a 6-18C aryl, a 7-19C aralkyl or the like; X is 0, CHR", NR" or the like; R" is H, OH, R', a 1-18C alkoxy or the like] is hydrogenated in the presence of a homogeneous catalyst of formula II [R1 and R2 are each H, a 1-18C alkyl, a 1-18C alkoxy or the like; R3 is a 2-18C alkyl, a 1-18C alkoxy or the like; R4 is a 1-18C alkyl, a 6-18C aryl or the like; R5 is H or the like; R6 and R7 are each H, a 1-18C alkyl, a 1-18C alkoxy, a 1-18C acyl or the like; R8 is H or a 1-18C alkyl; M is a sub-group 7 or 8 metal atom such as Co, Ni, Rh or Ru or the ion of the metal) in an enantio-selective state.
