To provide an engine starting device capable of changing over an ignition switch by operating a key cylinder by a key so that the start of an engine by an illegal means can be prevented by a simple configuration.
The changeover operation of a key cylinder 15 by a normal key is detected by a rotor rotation detection switch 18. A rotor rotation signal outputted by the rotor rotation detection switch 18 is encoded by a cylinder lock ECU 21. The encoded rotor rotation signal is transmitted to a collation ECU 50 via a wire 47b. The collation ECU 50 receives the encoded rotor rotation signal, and outputs the start permission signal to a power supply ECU 14. The power supply ECU 14 receives the start permission signal, receives the START signal based on the changing operation of the key cylinder 15, and outputs the start command signal to an engine ECU 72 to start an engine.
