To provide an Ethernet (R) passive optical network for uniting broadcasting and communication using time division multiplexing, which provides to subscribers not only communication data of a large capacity at a fast speed but also real time digital broadcast/images of high quality.
This Ethernet (R) passive optical network includes an OLT, a plurality of ONTs, and an optical electromagnetic wave filter. A plurality of digital broadcasting/image data are switched and time-slot multiplexed on the basis of broadcasting/image selection information from each user device, and thereby a broadcasting/image signal is generated. The OLT frame multiplexes the broadcasting/image signal and communication data transmitted through an IP network in one frame, and distributes them after electro-optical conversion. The ONTs photoelectrically convert an optical signal received from the OLT, and output broadcasting/image information included in a time slot allocated to the own terminal by performing frame and time-slot demultiplexing of the converted signal and all transmitted communication signals to the user device, and transmit them to the OLT. An optical demultiplexer demultiplexes signals from the OLT to the ONTs, multiplexes signals from the ONTs and transmits them to the OLT.
