Abstract:
PURPOSE:To effectively operate all picture elements and to obtain good display images by varying the electric capacity of a layer to be installed between electrodes and a ferroelectric liquid crystal compsn. in such a manner positive and negative threshold characteristics are equaled to each other. CONSTITUTION:A 1st electrode substrate 11 and a 2nd electrode substrate 31 have the electrodes on the surface. The ferroelectric liquid crystal compsn. 51 is sandwiched between the 1st electrode substrate 11 and the 2nd electrode substrate 31. The 1st layer 21 and 2nd layer 41, the surfaces of which have the effect of orienting the ferroelectric liquid crystal compsn. 51, are respectively installed between the 1st electrode substrate 11 and the 2nd electrode substrate 31. The electric capacity of the 1st layer 21 and the 2nd layer 41 is so varied as to correct the asymmetry of the electrooptical characteristics of the ferroelectric liquid crystal compsn. 51. All the picture elements are effectively operated in this way and the good display images are obtd.
