Abstract:
A base fabric (a) having a slack structure and made from filaments or threads having a smooth circular cross-section, a low pilosity and a minor proportion of wool content is consolidated and provided with a fibrous woollen nap or velour on one or both faces by covering the base fabric (a) with a layer (b) of woollen fibres to be secured by a needling process which passes through the full depth of both layers. Mutual displacement of the core (a) and superficial (b) threads or fibres results in a more coherent core layer (a) and provides it with a predominantly wollen nap and increased bulk. Used for mfr. of fabrics for clothing or covers for car seats etc. or other fabric decorations, to combine the lower cost of a synthetic base fabric with the appearance and better grip of a woollen nap or pile. The surface texture produced may range from velour to mohair.
