PURPOSE: To obtain the file display device in a document processor which can execute simply retrieval of a document file being an object in the case of reoperating a document stored already, in the document processor.

CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with a data read-in means 1 for reading in data stored in a file, an icon data selecting means 2 for selecting automatically a part of the read-in data and generating icon data, and an icon display means 5 for displaying the data selected by this icon data selecting means 2 on a displaying part 13, as an icon which becomes a title of the file stored in a storage part 14. In such a way, a user can retrieve simply the file being an operation object.
