Abstract:

To obtain a fireproof sealing composition which can prevent the worsening of working efficiency, the pollution of working environment and the injury to the health of workers in conventional fireproofing techniques and is excellent in fire resistance and. flame retardancy by blending a liquid polymer with a flame retardant comprising a phosphorus compound, a polyhydric alcohol, an alkali silicate, and a metal hydroxide.

This composition is formed by compounding a liquid polymer, a flame retardant comprising a phosphorus compound, a polyhydric alcohol, an alkali silicate, and a metal hydroxide. It is desirable that the amounts of the flame retardant, polyhydric alcohol, alkali silicate, and metal hydroxide are respectively at least 10 pts.wt., at least 10 pts.wt., at least 10 pts.wt., and at least 30 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. liquid polymer. The liquid polymer used preferably comprises a liquid chloroprene, polyacrylonitrile-butadiene or silicone rubber. Examples of the polyhydric alcohol used include glycerin and pentaerythritol. Examples of the flame retardant used include those comprising ammonium polyphosphate and red phosphorus.
