To maintain a fuel concentration within a proper range while using fuel through circulation.
The fuel cell system includes an alkaline fuel cell which generates electric power through reception of liquid fuel, and uses a fuel solution containing a waste fuel exhausted from the fuel cell by circulating the solution through a circulation path. The system includes a separating means capable of separating water from the fuel solution, a first path connected to the circulation path and the separating means, and a second path for supplying the fuel solution separated from the water by the separating means to the fuel cell. Further, the system includes a control means for switching between an open state which allows the fuel solution to flow into the first path and a close state which prohibits the fuel solution from flowing into the first path.
