Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of suppressing the degradation of conductivity in a fuel battery cell using a separator having, on its surface, a mixed layer made of titanium oxide and carbon.SOLUTION: A fuel battery cell comprises: a membrane-electrode assembly; a first separator and a second separator, arranged along both sides of the membrane-electrode assembly, which are each formed into an uneven shape; and a gasket provided at a peripheral edge of the fuel battery cell. The first separator and the second separator each have: a base material made of pure titanium or a titanium alloy; and a conductive mixed layer, made of titanium oxide and carbon, which is formed on the surface of the base material. The first separator or the second separator has an adhesive surface which is adhered to the gasket. On protruding portions on the surface of the first separator, a contact surface making contact with the surface of protruding portions of a second separator of another adjacent fuel battery cell has excess carbon remained thereon, whereas excess carbon is removed from the adhesive surface of the first separator or the second separator.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
