To provide a functional woven or knitted fabric with excellent performance capable of enduring repeated industrial cleaning, regarding all of the antistatic property, the absorbed-water diffusibility, and the pH adjustment function with respect to acidity and alkalinity.SOLUTION: In the functional woven or knitted fabric, a fiber surface exposed on at least one surface of a woven or knitted fabric made of fiber is coated with a coating comprising a vinyl polymer obtained by polymerization of a vinyl compound represented by general formula (1), where the coating contains lactic acid bacteria.SELECTED DRAWING: None
