To enable a press fitting of irregular-shaped refractory material to be performed repeatedly at a heat spot location of a furnace wall of a blast furnace and to enable a durability of refractory material to be extended by a method wherein a hollow cooling cylinder is fitted to an opening part of an iron plate at the heat spot location and the irregular-shaped refractory material is press fitted to the furnace wall through a hollow part of the cooling cylinder.
A plurality of cooling plates 2 are spaced apart by a predetermined distance and inserted into bricks 5 and iron plates 4 acting as a furnace wall of a furnace body such as a blast furnace and the like, the iron plates 4 and the bricks 5 are opened at a location of the furnace wall of the furnace body where a less amount of worn-out and damaged residual bricks 5 is placed, i.e., a heat spot location 21 and then hollow cooling cylinders 1 are inserted into openings 4a. A main body 10 of each of the cooling cylinders 1 is comprised of a cylinder, wherein a partition valve 6 having a press-fitting hose 9 connected to it is connected to the rear end of the cylinder and at the same time the main body 10 is provided with an inlet 7 and an outlet 8 for use in circulating cooling water. Then, irregular-shaped refractory materials 3 fed from a press-fitting machine are press fitted from a hose 9 to the furnace body, the irregular-shaped refractory materials 3 are filled at the extremity end of each of the cooling cylinders 1 so as to form a layer of the refractory materials 3 at the furnace wall.
