To provide a glass polarizing element which allows prevention or reduction of cracks due to tensile stress mainly caused by a drawing step with a large tension, and a manufacturing method thereof.
The manufacturing method of the glass polarizing element includes: a melting step of dissolving glass containing silver ions and chlorine ions; a silver chloride deposition step of depositing a silver chloride in molten glass; a preform forming step of processing the glass into a desired size; a drawing step of heating a preform and drawing silver chloride particles in a uniaxial direction to form a glass sheet; a strengthening step of forming a compressive stress layer on a surface of the glass sheet; and a reduction step of reducing the drawn silver chloride particles in the glass sheet.
