To reliably prevent malfunction due to reflection light from a pedestal surface in a goose neck type microphone where a proximity sensor including an infrared-receiving/emitting element is installed near the pedestal surface.
In the goose neck type microphone, the proximity sensor is provided at a base casing 10 installed on the pedestal T, such as a desk, with a microphone unit supported via a flexible support pipe, the proximity sensor includes an infrared-emitting element 121 for emitting infrared rays toward a talker side and an infrared-receiving element 131 for receiving reflection light from the talker side, and a microphone output section is turned on or off by an output signal from that proximity sensor. In the goose neck type microphone, a light shielding section 175 for shielding reflection light from the pedestal surface Ts in infrared rays emitted from the infrared-emitting element 121 is formed at one portion of an opening 173 for receiving light where the infrared-receiving element is disposed.
