Abstract:
To provide a grinding method with high accuracy and high material removal ability as advantages, for machining a workpiece made of a hard and brittle material such as glass, glass ceramics or ceramics having a cylindrical surface.
The method includes fixing the workpiece 12 to a workpiece holder 14 and driving it so as to be rotated around a rotation shaft 16. The workpiece 12 is ground by a grinding tool 18 driven so as to be rotated around a grinding mandrel shaft 20 extending in parallel to the rotation shaft 16 of the workpiece, and the grinding tool 18 is vertically fed to the grinding mandrel shaft 20. In the method, a cup type grinding tool can be also used for inner surface grinding or outer surface grinding.
