To provide a reflection type guest-host liquid crystal display device of which the brightness of light display sufficiently and which can display a picture excellent in contrast.

A prism sheet 21 having plural fine prism parts 22 is disposed between a guest-host liquid crystal device 10 and a diffuse reflection plate 20 arranged on the rear side of the liquid crystal element 10. Light which is made incident from the front, transmitted through the liquid crystal device 10 and made incident on the prism sheet 21, is reflected on the prism sheet 21 or transmitted through the prism sheet 21 and then reflected and diffused on the diffuse reflection plate 20 in accordance with the incident angle. The reflected light is refracted by the prism sheet 21 in such a direction that the angle to the normal of the screen of the liquid crystal device 10 is reduced and transmitted through the liquid crystal device 10 to be emitted to the front.
