Title:
HEAD ASSEMBLY AND SUSPENSION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3923174
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head assembly which can prevent an MR element from burning owing to static electricity.
SOLUTION: The head assembly 35 includes a suspension 34, a head slider 34 which has a magnetoresistive element mounted on the tip part of the suspension 34, and couples of lead lines 58 and 60, and 64 and 66 which each have one end connected to the magnetoresistive element and are formed on the suspension. Further, the head assembly 35 includes a metallic ball 84 connected to lead lines by bonding. When the head assembly 35 is handled alone, the couples of lead lines are short-circuited by the metallic ball 84, so a current resulting from static electricity flows to the magnetoresistive element, which is prevented from burning. After the head assembly 35 is fitted to an actuator arm, the metallic ball 84 is removed and the couples of lead lines are made electrically open.
