Abstract:
To provide austenitic stainless steel suitable for a metal gasket which is excellent in settling resistance, and maintains air tightness for a long period of time.
The austenitic stainless steel contains: >0.03 to 0.20 mass% C, 2.0 to 5.0 mass% Si, ≤2.5 mass% Mn, 7.0 to 17.0 mass% Ni, 13.0 to 23.0 mass% Cr and <0.05 mass% N, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and an SFE value defined as 25.7+2(Ni)+410(C)-0.9(Cr)-77(N)-13(Si)-1.2(Mn) is adjusted to 2 to 20. Furthermore, the austenitic stainless steel may contain one, two or more of ≤0.80 mass% Nb, ≤2.0 mass% Mo, ≤4.0 mass% Cu, ≤0.5 mass% Ti, ≤1.0 mass% V, ≤0.2 mass% Al, ≤0.020 mass% B, ≤0.2 mass% REM (rare earth element), ≤0.2 mass% Y, ≤0.1 mass% Ca, and ≤0.1 mass% Mg.
