To obtain an optical material which satisfies transparency and heat resistance and simultaneously satisfies workability by adopting polyarylate consisting of a specific structure for the polyarylate of the optical material consisting of the polyarylate.
The polyarylate consisting of the structure expressed by formula is adopted for the polyarylate of the optical material consisting of the polyarylate. In the formula, R1 and R2 are respectively independently selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom, halogen atom, hydrocarbon group and nitro group. The hydrocarbon group is selected from the group consisting of 1-20C aliphatic group, 3-20C alicyclic group and 6-20C aromatic group. X is selected from the group consisting of a single bond, oxygen atom, sulfur atom, alkylene group, alkylidene group, cycloalkylene group, cycloalkylidene group, halo-substituted alkylidene group, phenyl alkylidene group, substituted phenyl alkylidene group, earbonyl group, sulfonyl group, etc., and (p) and (q) denote integers from 0 to 4.
