Title:
HIGH PRESSURE DISCHARGE LAMP
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3558307
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop generation of pulse voltages when a high pressure discharge lamp cannot be started to operate by some reasons.
SOLUTION: A starting unit 2, constructed of a series circuit of a glow starter 7, a resistance heating element 8, and a normally open heat-reacting switch 3, is connected in parallel with an emission tube 1, is enclosed inside an outer tube 4 and, when the emission tube 1 does not operate, causes the bulb of the glow starter 7 to leak by means of the heat of the resistance heating element 8 to release internal sealed-in gas. After the glow starter 7 has been destroyed, a discharge does not occur at the glow starter 7 even at the re-application of a voltage to the starter unit 2, nor do pulse voltages emerge.
