Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a hollow waveguide excellent in massproductivity and long-term reliability with which high optical power can be transmitted with low loss in a wide wavelength region from UV to IR including the region for which a conventional quartz fiber can not be used, and to provide the stable production method of this waveguide.
CONSTITUTION: This hollow waveguide 4 is produced by forming a polyimide resin 2 which is transparent in the wavelength region of the light to be transmitted on the inner wall of a hollow metal waveguide 1. This hollow waveguide 4 is produced by filling the hollow metal waveguide 1 with a soln. of polyimide resin by use of a pump, then discharging the soln. and drying to form a polyimide resin layer 2 on the inner wall. The soln. is prepared by dissolving a polyimide resin in a solvent. This procedure is repeated to form a polyimide resin layer 2 of desired thickness.
