Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the reaction efficiency of the title structure by forming open hole parts and a latticed wall with the parts protruding from the open hole parts formed on a part of the latticed wall in the structure, and allowing a fluid passing through the open hole parts to react on the latticed wall surface.

CONSTITUTION: The honeycomb structure having the open hole parts 1 and the parts 3 protruding from the open hole parts 1 formed on the latticed wall 2 is formed. In the honeycomb structure, for example, the open hole part is a square having the same side lengths A and B, and the protrusions 3 having the width (a) and protrusion length (b) are provided on the latticed wall 2 surrounding the open hole parts 1. The honeycomb structure is formed with a material infiltrating into the recesses 12 at the intermediate points of the latticed wall 2 by using a die. Consequently, the contact area is increased because of the protrusions, and the strength is improved. When (a) is, for example, controlled to 1/4 of A and 1/4 of B and A=B, the peripheral length of the open hole part 1 is increased by 50% as compared with a case where the protrusion 3 is not provided.
