Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition of modified release multi-particulates and a method for preparing the same by embedding modified release multi-particulates in a matrix under preservation of the dissolution characteristics of the original modified release multi-particulates.SOLUTION: A modified release multi-particulate agent comprises an effective amount of a therapeutic compound having a known or desired drug-release profile. A modified release multi-particulate agent may include a polymeric coat or may be incorporated into particle or core material. A polymer matrix is a controlled release pharmaceutical formulation comprises a thermoplastic polymer or a lipophilic carrier or a mixture thereof that softens or melts at elevated temperature and allows the distribution of the modified release multi-particulate agent in the polymer matrix during thermal processing. Formulation compounds and processing conditions are selected from a manner to preserve the controlled release characteristics and/or drug-protective characteristics of the original modified release multi-particulates.
