Abstract:

To increase the set range of the natural period of a vibration damping device by installing a base plate having a curved pendulum motion mass mounting surface on a structure, providing a rolling means or placing a pendulum motion mass on the mounting surface, and freely reciprocating the pendulum motion mass by a driving device.

An arc-shaped pendulum motion mass mounting surface 4 of the radius (l) with its center at the symbol O is formed on an upper surface of a base plate 2 installed on a structure 1 such as a high-rise building, and a block-like pendulum motion mass 3 provided with four roll supporting members 5 on a lower surface is placed in a reciprocating manner on the mounting surface 4. A rack 11 is horizontally arranged on a back side of the mass 3, a pinion to be rotated by a forward-reverse controlled motor installed on the structure side is engaged with the rack 11. The pendulum motion around the symbol O is virtually achieved relative to the mass 3 by the forward-reverse rotation of the motor, the reaction in reciprocating the mass 3 is transmitted to the structure 1 through the motor to damp the vibration of the structure 1.
