PURPOSE: To drive an elevator jack by the increase and decrease in the amount of electricity conductive fluid by filling fluid passages leading to the elevator jack with the electricity conductive fluid, and employing a pair of positive and negative electrodes forming a dc current passage normal to the fluid passages and a dc electromagnetic coil for forming a magnetic flux normal to both the fluid passages and the current passage.
CONSTITUTION: An electromagnetic drive device 10 is arranged between fluid passages 7, 8 leading to a jack supporting a cage. The passages 7, 8 are filled with electricity conductive fluid. The electromagnetic drive device 10 is constituted out of paired positive and negative electrodes 11, 12 arranged between fluid passages 7, 8 and with an electromagnetic coil 13 arranged on the outer circumference of the passages 7, 8. A force is exerted to the electricity conductive fluid 14 with a magnetic flux caused with the dc current 16 flowing through the electromagnetic coil 13 and normal to the current, and with the dc current 15 flowing through the electricity conductive fluid 14 to the positive and negative electrodes 11, 12 in the direction normal to the magnetic flux according to the Fleming's left-hand rule. Therefore, the press feed amount of the electricity conductive fluid 14 is changed by the increase or decrease in the value of the dc current 15 so that the cage is moved up and down efficiently without a mechanical means.
