Abstract:

To efficiently carry out hydroformylation by reacting a raw material comprising compounds having a single ethylenically unsaturated group with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the liquid phase in the presence of a catalyst system comprising a source of palladium cations, a source of anions, a source of bidentate ligands and a source of halides.

A feedstock comprising compounds having a single ethylenically unsaturated group is reacted with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the liquid phase in the presence of a catalyst system comprising (A) a source of palladium cations, (B) a source of anions, (C) a source of one or more bidentate ligands represented by the formula R1R2M1RM2R3R4 (M1 and M2 are each phosphorus, arsenic or the like; R is a bivalent bridging group having 1-4 atoms in the bridge part; R1 to R4 are each a hydrocarbyl or the like) and (D) a source of halides such as chlorides or iodides and thereby hydrofromylated. The feedstock contains one or more dienes and/or further multiply unsaturated alkenes in an amount of 0.005-10 wt.% based on the total amount of the ethylenically unsaturated compounds and the component B contains the source of anions of an acid having a pKa value of -1 to +4 at 18°C.
