The hydrostatic continuously variable transmission is configured so as to carry out the continuously variable speed change by connecting a swash plate plunger type hydraulic pump (P) and a swash plate plunger type hydraulic motor (M) via a closed hydraulic circuit, and by variably controlling the inclination angle of the swash plate of the hydraulic motor. A valve spool (70) movably arranged in a spool bore (6d) formed in a support shaft (6) of the hydraulic pump and the hydraulic motor extending in the axial direction is equipped with a first spool member (171) having a guide land part fitted in a guide member (77), and a second spool member (172) having a central land part (73), a left land part (74), and a valve part for communicating or shutting off high pressure side and low pressure side clutch oil passages according to its axial movement. The first and second spool members (171, 172) are connected by a connecting pin (173).
