Abstract:
PURPOSE:To attain various operations of an IC card system together with an existing bank account system by loading an IC card into an input/output terminal connected by on-line to a main bank storing an ordinary account and an IC card account. CONSTITUTION:A host computer of a main bank stores an IC card account as well as an ordinary account for each customer. An IC card contains a storage memory which includes a secret zone, a debt area, a credit area, a remittance area, a basic information area, etc. When an on-line transaction is carried out via an ATM set at the bank side, the money can be paid and received in an ordinary way. In a purchase mode at stores, etc., the IC card is put into an IC card reader/writer 30 connected to a register or the bank host computer. Thus the amount of purchase is compared with the balance information stored in the storage memory. If acknowledgement is secured from said comparison, the amount of purchase is paid through the IC card account of the bank.
