Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce the size of an ignition coil for internal combustion engine by reducing the used amount of a primary coil.

CONSTITUTION: An ignition coil 1 for internal combustion engine is provided with a core 13, primary coil 21, secondary coil 23, and permanent magnet 27. The core 13 is composed of a pair of core components 11 and 12 having nearly U-shapes. The primary coil 21 is wound around a core 13 in the direction perpendicular to the axis L of the core 13 and, when an electric current is supplied to the coil 21, makes the core 13 to generate a magnetic flux along the axis L. The secondary coil 23 is wound around the core 13 and, when the supply of the electric current to the coil 21 is stopped, generates a voltage to ignite an internal combustion engine following the change of the magnetic flux caused by the stoppage of the current supply. The permanent magnet 28 has a platy shape and is put between the core components 11 and 12 in such a state that its magnetic poles 27α and 27β obliquely cross the axis L. The magnet 27 generates another magnetic flux having a component opposite to that of the magnetic flux generated by the core 13. The side face of the magnet 27 is positioned near the side face of the core 13.
