Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select each image coding system dynamically by selecting a proper image coding system for each picture of an input image and informing the selected system to an opposite terminal equipment.
SOLUTION: A communication state control section 11 manages a state of a coder to control a switch 1 selecting transmission of image coding data or transmission of a coding system description code. Image coding sections 12a, 12b, 12c, 12z by coding systems A, B, C, Z conduct coding of input images by coding systems represented by coding system description codes A, B, C, Z respectively. A coding system selection section 13 connects to the communication state control section 11 to control a switch 2 that selects a coding system for each picture and output data from which image coding section are to be sent. Furthermore, a coding system description code transmission section 14 connects to the selection section 13 to send the description code. Thus, the proper image coding system is informed to an opposite terminal equipment to select dynamically the image coding system.
