This image display device includes: a light emission intensity control data generating means (3) for generating light emission intensity control data (Vi) for controlling each light emission intensity of a plurality of light sources (5-1 to 5-N) using input image data input from the outside; and a light source control means (6) for controlling each light emission intensity of the plurality of light sources (5-1 to 5-N) according to the light emission intensity control data (Vi). The light emission intensity control data generating means (3) determines the light emission control data (Vi) so that the total of the light emission intensity of the plurality of light sources (5-1 to 5-N) does not exceed a predetermined value.
