An image forming apparatus ejects recording paper on which an image is formed to an openable/closable paper ejection tray, and includes: first detection means for detecting an open/close state of the paper ejection tray; second detection means for detecting whether or not recording paper on which an image is formed has been ejected; and notification means for notifying whether or not image formation is possible on the basis of the detection result of the first detection means or second detection means.
