To solve the problem that, in the case where winding of the leading end of paper is detected by providing detection sensors at the entrance and exit of a fixing device in order to prevent winding of paper around the fixing device, even the trailing end of paper is also wound around before the fixing roller completely stops after the detection of the winding of the leading end, which makes it difficult to remove the jammed paper.

The device uses a fixing drive means, as a drive means for the fixing device, which includes: rotation control that controls operation; and brake control that controls a driving part so as to keep the driving part free or fixed. In the event that winding of the leading end of paper is detected, the brake control is applied to the fixing drive means, thereby immediately stopping a pair of fixing rollers rotating continuously with inertial force. This prevents even the trailing end of the paper from being wound around the fixing device.
