PURPOSE: To store charges even when no voltage is applied to each matrix in the case of driving the matrix by connecting a photoelectric conversion element receiving directly a light from a light source and a photoelectric conversion element receiving a reflected light from an original in series.
CONSTITUTION: Picture element array comprising plural number of picture elements generated by an organic optical conductor is divided into plural blocks and the picture elements are driven in the unit of matrices. Then a light source comprising a LED array 3 always emits a photo conductive conversion element section 5 and emits an original face 4, and a reflected light is emitted to a photo conductive conversion element section 1 of a line sensor by a rod lens array 2. The element sections 1, 2 are connected in series to generate picture elements, and the signal subject to photoelectric conversion at each picture element is read as a time series signal sequentially through matrix driving.
