Abstract:

To provide an imaging apparatus capable of accurately performing distance measurement at high speed regardless of a zooming position.

In AF control of the imaging apparatus, a sampling interval is set according to whether the relational expression of zooming position a predetermined value is established or not, and storage of a focus evaluation value and a position of a focus lens 101 is repeated while driving the focus lens 101 at the corresponding sampling interval until the position of the focus lens 101 reaches a scan end position (steps S602-607). When the position of the focus lens 101 reaches the scan end position, the position of the focus lens 101 showing the maximum value of the stored focus evaluation values is extracted, a focusing position is determined based on an interpolation result of the extracted maximum value or its focus evaluation value, and the focus lens 101 is moved to this position (steps S604-611).
