Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain in high yield in a simple operation an isothiocyanic acid useful as an agrochemical having nematocidal action, or as an intermediate for medicines and agrochemicals.
SOLUTION: This compound of formula II is obtained by reaction between an 1-propene derivative of formula I (X1 is a halogen; X2 is an eliminable group) and a thiocyanate of the formula M(SCN)n (M is a metal atom or ammonium; (n) is the valence of M) in the presence of water at room temperature to 90°C. The amounts of the compound of formula I to be used based on the thiocyanate and the water to be used based on the compound of formula I are 0.5-5 (pref. 0.8-1.5) equivalent and 0.1-20 (pref. 0.5-5) wt.times, respectively. When the solvent is water alone, an excess of the thiocyanic acid and the inorganic salt as a byproduct are dissolved in the water, therefore, facilitating after-treatment operation. The compound of formula I can be prepared by reaction between a compound of formula III (X3 is an eliminable group) and a base, and the objective compound of formula II can be obtained in series by conducting the aforementioned reaction following the above reaction.
