Title:
IMPROVEMENTS IN AND RELATING TO BRAKING MECHANISMS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2015122952
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide eddy-current braking mechanisms which can solve problems in the prior art and can limit the speed of rotation of a rotor over a wide range of applied loads or torques.SOLUTION: In an eddy-current braking mechanism, including a rotor, rotatable about a rotor axis, at least one electrically conductive member is coupled to the rotor for rotation therewith; at least one magnet is configured to apply a magnetic field extending at least partially orthogonal to the plane of rotation of the conductive member; and, upon rotation of the rotor, the conductive member is configured as references or to move at least partially radially from the rotor axis into the applied magnetic field.
