Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:An indole derivative of formula I (R1,2 are H, OH, acyloxy or tosyloxy; R3 is CH2OH, COOH, CHO, or carboalkoxy).
EXAMPLE: 1-Formyl-4-hydroxy-9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole of formula II.
USE: A xanthine oxidase inhibitor, and its synthetic intermediate. Effective to uricacidemia, gout, calculus diseases of the urinary organs, etc. Improves the effect of anti-ulcer agents.
PROCESS: Dried powder of Picrasma quassioides Benn. is extracted with a polar organic solvent, and the resulting extract is fractionated and purified by column chromatography to obtain the compounds II and III. As an alternate method, the compound IV is prepared by the rearrangement reaction of 1-carbomethoxy-9H- pyrido[3,4-b]indole.
