Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method for synthesizing anisotropically-shaped crystals of hydroxy apatite of which the dispersion state is stabilized in a solvent, and to provide a method for controlling orientation of the crystals at a macroscopic scale.SOLUTION: A method for preparing a colloidal solution containing anisotropically-shaped crystals of hydroxy apatite includes: (1) a step of preparing a mixed solution by mixing a first solution containing calcium ions and an organic polymer and a second solution containing phosphate ions; and (2) a step of separating and recovering a deposition from the mixed solution. The colloidal solution comprises the anisotropically-shaped crystals of hydroxy apatite with the organic polymer composed of polyacrylic acid adsorbed to a surface thereof. A method for controlling orientation of the crystals of hydroxy apatite includes: applying a magnetic field to the colloidal solution containing the anisotropically-shaped crystals of hydroxy apatite exhibiting liquid crystalline properties; and orienting the long axis of the crystals of hydroxy apatite toward a direction vertical to the direction of the magnetic field.SELECTED DRAWING: None
