PURPOSE: To simplify the input of characters and symbols and to attain small sized operating section without the need for a keyboard for character and symbol input, by constituting an input device inputting the characters and symbols with a digitizer.

CONSTITUTION: When a storage area is left on a cassette tape, a comment area 18 is touched with a pen tip to input a comments such as a map desired to be stored at present. Since writing drawn on the comment area 18 is displayed on a screen of a CRT1, the comment has only to be written by using desired characters and symbols the same as the writing of conventional characters. After this is finished, a comment input end indication area 18a is depressed with a pen tip or the like to input the completion of the comment input. After a control circuit 3 writes the said comment in the vacant area on the tape, a map data is recorded.
