Title:
INTER-VEHICLE DISTANCE CONTROLLER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3550899
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inter-vehicle distance controller capable of catching relative speed by giving priority, in compliance with necessity, to either one of reduction of dispersion or improvement in responsiveness according to an inter-vehicle distance.
SOLUTION: The present inter-vehicle distance controller is provided with a reference value setting means M3 for setting the reference value in compliance with inter-vehicle distance sequentially detected by an inter-vehicle distance detecting means M2 and a relative speed calculation means M4 for calculating a relative speed to that of preceding vehicle from the abovementioned variation quantity and a time required for that variation when variation quantities of sequentially detected inter-vehicle distances increase to more than the reference value. In this way, the reference value is set in compliance with the detected inter-vehicle distance and when the variation quantity of the inter-vehicle distance increases to more than the reference value, by calculating the relative speed from that variation quantity and a time required for the variation, reduction of dispersion or improvement in responsiveness is given priority as required so that the relative speed can be obtained.
