USE: Intermediates for producing the dihydroerythromycin A which is an effective anti-bacterial agent against Gram-positive and negative bacteria.
PROCESS: The compound of formula II is allowed to react in a solvent such as chloroform in the presence of oxidant such as hydrogen peroxide at 18--25°C for 24 hours.
