Abstract:

To provide an internal combustion engine performing premixed compression ignition combustion, reducing risk of a misfire in transitional operation.

An engine 1 being the internal combustion engine for performing the premixed compression ignition combustion, has an ECU 8. The ECU 8 determines whether the engine 1 is a steady operation state or a transitional operation state, and performs control based on a transitional operation map for enhancing combustion stability when the engine is the transitional operation state. The transitional operation map increases a fuel supply quantity, increases a negative overlap quantity, increases supercharging pressure and reduces an external EGR quantity more than a steady operation map.
