PURPOSE: To prevent danger such as a fire caused by applying an electric current, and to improve the safety of the title device and the handling conditions thereof, by a method wherein although a motor continues to rotate when a base is controlled at any temperature, the electric current applied to the motor is cut off when a temperature-presetting means is set in the state of 'off'.
CONSTITUTION: An electric source cord 22 is connected to a service outlet and iron main body 1 is placed on a placing stand 9. A temperature-controlling means 21 inputs thermal information in a temperature-detecting means 4 from a signal electrode 11, and controls an electric current applied to a heater 2 so that a base 3 becomes at a definite temperature when it reaches a temperature preset. When the temperature on the base reaches a desired temperature, the iron main body 1 on the placing stand 9 is lifted by a worker and ironing is done. When ironing work is finished or when the ironing work is discontinued halfway, a temperature-presetting means 12 is operated and is set in the state of 'off'. The temperature-controlling means 21 stops temperature control when the temperature-presetting means 12 becomes in the state of 'off' and the electric current applied to a heater 2 is cut off and the electric current applied to a motor 18 is simultaneously cut off.
