To provide a light condensing optical system capable of improving light utilization efficiency as the system converting emitted light from a lamp into the light whose illuminance distribution is uniform by using a rod integrator.
In this light condensing optical system, the light radiated from a primary light source such as the light emitting part of the lamp and emitted in parallel by a lamp reflector is condensed on the rod integrator, and a secondary light source having the uniform spatial distribution of light quantity is formed of the rod integrator. In the system, a both-surface aspherical lens rotationally symmetric is arranged between the lamp and the rod integrator, and formed so that the cross-sectional area of the light made incident on an area having a specified effective radius from an optical axis on the incident surface of the lens may be zero or a specified small value on the emitting surface of the lens, and the light made incident on an area other than the above area by the refraction of the incident surface and the emitting surface is condensed on the rod integrator.
